The new Football Stadium is home to the New York Giants, as well as the New York Jets. It will also host the Superbowl in 2014.
Aside from housing 2 NFL Teams, the design of the stadium needed to incorporate both Conferences, (NFC & AFC), as well as offer a color scheme and/or change over that would accommodate both Teams. The same was necessary for the Flagship Store, a 10,000 square foot NFL Team Store located on the Concourse Level.
When deciding on the right flooring system, it was necessary to take in not only what colors would be suitable for both teams, but it also needed the durability to be completely changed over depending on which Team was home each weekend.
Mike Huntington, Vice President of Asbestolith said, "The colors needed to be very consistent, because it's a dual-purpose store. They light it up Green when the Jets are playing and Blue when the Giants play."
Dex-O-Tex Cheminert K with Posi-Tred O was chosen as the finished flooring system, and the Roselle Park Lab matched 4 Color Chips for the final finish. The colors were a combination of Grays and Charcoal shades, which were chosen to allow each of the Giant & Jet Team Colors to be highlighted through the use of special lighting.
Asbestolith Mfg. Inc., a 4th Generation Dex-O-Tex Applicator was awarded the contract and installed the system in May and June of this year. Lighting was critical, so it was important that our color matches were exact for the color scheme and pattern to work. In addition, the floor needed to be put in place in a condensed time frame due to Special Events that were planned for the stadium, in addition to the Exhibition Schedule for both Teams.
The end result was a dramatic floor that not only provided each Team with their "Own" store & colors, but provided the Stadium with a durable floor that was put to the Acid Test in week one of the Season, when the Giants Opened up on Sunday afternoon, followed by a Monday Night Home Game for the Jets.
This project was a challenging endeavor. The Valencia Summit Pool is one of the largest community pools in the Southern California area. This 12,000 square feet pool deck had 25 years of use and abuse. The waveless pool had a 4' Canter levered detail around the entire pool and had cracked concrete, rusted rebar and spalling. Additionally, 25% of the concrete was deteriorated and pitted to an average depth of ¼".
The cracks were routed using structural epoxy, then Dex-O-Tex SC Membrane and RP fabric were installed. All spalling and rust repairs where corrected with rust inhibitor and structural mortar repair. All depressions were corrected with VL primer and two lifts of A-81 SQ Underlayment with sand extension. The entire deck was etched and neutralized, then treated with the Dex-O-Tex Resistite and AJ-44 Pool deck system in a knock down texture. The system was done in two colors to help create the look and feel of a brand new pool deck surface.
